I applaud your richly informative article. Shame on the Zaragosa family...it is very sad, greed is all too common amongst the excessively wealthy.

In regards to the comment that "MONIKA" posted a while ago..."Mexico is not a bunch of “inditos” begging for crumbs"..., the sad truth is that she is blind and brainwashed. This is a popular mentality of Mexican citizens from the "upper class". I can say this first handedly, my family from MX D.F., who are very wealthy, share the same mentality. The indigenous population suffers from hardcore racism/oppression by fellow Mexican citizens. Ironically, most Mexicans (wether it be "upper" or "lower class") are mestizo, of indigenous decent, but they have adopted the idea that white european genes are superior (an outdated idea that has been carried on since horrors of the inquisition).

The cement and barbed wire fence that Pedro Zaragosa has erected looks like a concentration camp. I send my thoughts to the people suffering in Lomas de Poleo.

This Bill Sanders fellow is a tyrant as far as I'm concerned.

I live in downtown El Paso, and it saddens me whenever I walk around, and see these huge, beautiful buildings sitting empty. The Abraham family owns not all but many of these vacant buildings.

I'm confused. Is the decidedly unsisterly "Monika" suggesting that all those women who were killed were lazy? And just what does "get rid of those people once and for all"
mean?

Um, lots of Mexicans have been living on rent-free land for many years. That's called the ejido system. It's a tenet of the Mexican Revolution and it still exists, believe it or not. It'll be interesting to see what kind of land development goes on now that the US and global economy is collapsing. If it really tanks, those beggar inditos on the outskirts of Juarez may end up better off than you are.

We need to look at the big picture.. These people did not buy the land. They have been living there rent free for many years. Good for them...now, it's time for them to vacate the premises and make way for developments that will generate income and the economy. This "pobrecito" approach is the reason why these people will always be where they are. Lets give them this and that etc.. Just like the welfare system in this great nation. It makes people incompetent and promotes lazyness. Lets hope they get rid of those people for once and for all and make way to progress. Mexico is not a bunch of "inditos" begging for crumbs. We are upstanding citizens who love our country and who work hard to have what we deserve.

This article is courageous. The analysis is deep and great. I wish it was published by mainstream media. This is good journalism.
